No one has the right to tell a woman what she can and can not do with her body. When it comes to the rights of women, it is about time that we begin to move forward on the issue. Reproductive rights can often time become a matter of life and death for women and can not simply be categorized as a choice. Decisions regarding abortions, reproductive health services, and effective birth control are decisions that are best left to the woman and her doctor.
We live in an era where women literally work just as hard, just as fast, and are just as effective as their male counterparts, but are not compensated equally. And the situation is much worse for women of color, earning just 54 – 64 cents for every dollar made by their male counterpart. This is senseless, sexist, and a national embarrassment. We need to see that the Paycheck Fairness act receives the support it needs in order to put an end to wage discrimination.
The Violence Against Women Act as well as the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act need to have their services broadened in order to better serve women and keep from regressing back to the days when spousal abuse was legal and accepted.
If elected, I will fight for the protection and reproductive rights of women, pay equity for women, and fight for quality childcare and Pre-K to be available to all Americans.
